What is this secret you may ask?

You may know, or you may not, but I’m kind of in love with photography. It’s slowly and oddly came into my life and I just can’t shake it. It gives me the drive to climb to the top of the mountain to get the shot, or to be in uncomfortable situations, just to get that shot. #doitforthegram Whatever the reason may be, it pushes me past my limits that’s for sure.

SIDE STORY – I hiked Roy’s Peak in Wanaka, half way up my hip was aching and I just wanted to turn around. But I thought to myself, I can’t write a post about how I “half” completed Roy’s Peak, so I continued and made it to the top. Little did I know, I was going to get robbed and all the photos would be taken. But that’s besides the point, the point is that somehow, photography forces you past your limits in order to get the perfect shot. Maybe you should try it?

Hooker Valley was a similar experience – other than getting robbed of course. There was 3 of us. We had awoken at 530 am to begin the trek. We’d slept in our cozy warm vans and were ready for the most epic sunrise. As we walked like zombies down the relaxing trail, the darkness surrounded us. We didn’t know what the weather was like up there because we couldn’t see it. The longer we walked, the warmer it got. I took one layer off, but I regret not taking off many more.

After 1.5 hours, we made it to Hooker Valley. The cloud was low, there was no sight of mountains and it was cold! Our mission was to take photos for an hour or so of the sunrise and the views, but there were no views! It was the first time I’d bought thermals, and didn’t realize that delayering was the key. So silly me, I was absolutely freezing in my own cold sweat for 2 hours. We decided to leave because the cloud was just not clearing and we were all uninspired. Isn’t it funny how the moment you decide to leave and are leaving, the sun burns all the fog away. We were blessed with the most beautiful sight I’d ever seen. The photo below is probably my most favourite photo ever taken/edited, I could get lost starring at it.

I truly encourage everyone to get outside, with your phone camera, or just with your eyeballs. Go checkout the amazing views around you, because there is beauty everywhere. Yes, even in your small city with no mountains around. I’m sure if I was there with my camera I could find the most hidden treasures you never notice. Uninspired by your surroundings? Save up for that flight to your favourite place in the world. I dare you to do it once, I’m highly positive you won’t regret it.

Come to New Zealand, visit the Hooker Valley Trail and bring your grandma. She’d love it, plus its a nice chilled walk and she could totally join! Bring the whole fam and have a picnic, I dare you.

When I speak with long lost friends and ask them what they’ve been up lately. It breaks my heart to hear “Oh nothing, just my boring life.” Why do we allow ourselves to live our lives like this, knowing we are unhappy. We act as though we have all the time in the world to experience life, why aren’t we taking hold of these moments as much as we can? Don’t you wish you were sitting on your sofa, satisfied with the day you just had. A day where all your hard work came together and you knew you were achieving exactly what you wanted in life? I ask you, no I yell at you to snap out of the zombie train and go do something your future self will thank you for.

I hope my photos will inspire you to follow your dreams as well.
